Happy Week 7!
Congratulations! We've made it half-way through the semester. I know it has been hard and often isolating, but we've done it! I hope you are all enjoying this weekend.
I will not present any new material this week as I want you to focus on the air quality project. If you have done done so, please contact your team, which includes a student from James Madison College.
Dr. Axelrod and I will again be available during class (for all ENE 480 students, irrespective) on Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 pm to answer any questions you may have about Assignment 3, which is due this coming Thursday (October 22) at 11:59 pm. I will post a grading rubric within a day or so.
On Thursday, I will be available on Zoom during lab from 1-2 pm to answer any questions you may have about this project. You can also email your questions to me.
And don't forget about the extra credit participation question, which is due on Tuesday!
Below is a synopsis of the four videos you should watch for the air quality assignment.
- The first Basics of Air Quality and Impact of Fireworks is an
overview of air quality regulations in the US and provides specific
information regarding the impact of fireworks. I've provided numerous
graphs to show students how the data can be plotted and evaluated.
- The Panel Discussion is a hour long panel of experts from EGLE, the
State Legislature, and a consulting firm and will provide an overview of
how the information is best presented for legislators. I learned a lot
from this discussion. (https://youtu.be/OPI8J3BPIeM)
- The video by Dr. Axelrod (on MediaSpace) gives an overview of the
policymaking process and has more information about Diwali celebrations
(Prof. Axelrod met his wife in India and I believe they were engaged
during Diwali).
- The fourth video is specific to air pollution sampling and monitoring
and provides an overview about how the data you are using are
obtained. (https://youtu.be/TSI_QjFy6vY)
All the best,
Dr. Masten
