Happy Saturday! I hope you are all doing well on this gray and rainy Saturday (at least in mid-Michigan). Final mental health reminder to all: When things get frustrating and really difficult, be nice to yourself: It doesn't seem possible that this semester is almost over. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you in subsequent classes and for those of you graduating - congratulations!  I made a little graduation "memento" for those of you graduating and a message for all of you. It's located on my YouTube channel . If any of you have questions about the final project, please just email me. If needed, we can always set up a Zoom chat.  And a few final reminders: The last participation (extra credit) question is open until Dec 16 at 11:59 pm. Please complete it before then.  The final project is due on December 16 at 2:45 pm.  If you need a bit of extra time (up to 36 hrs), please let me know. Beyond that it will get more challenging with grades being due on the 2...

Happy Sunday and penultimate day in November! I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! I will admit, it was nice to have a few days off.  I saw this on a walk over break and thought it represented this semester: the long, windy, and often bumpy road   As a reminder, lab 4 is due on Monday, November 30 at 11:59 pm. We will meet in class this week according to the schedule posted here (and on LON-CAPA) to discuss your final project. Please come to your scheduled time having discussed with your team what objective you have chosen prepared a brief description of the experiment(s) you will conduct to meet the objective made a list of what materials and supplies you will need for this final project. The details of the final project are posted on LON-CAPA.  All the best, Dr. Masten

Happy Saturday! I hope all of you are doing well and were able to enjoy the beautiful weather today.  We will not have class this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. However, I will be available on Tuesday during the lab time (1:50-4:40 pm) to answer questions. If you email me, we can arrange to chat via Zoom. There is no extra credit participation question this week. I will post one next weekend, which will be due the following Friday (12/4/2020). Lab 4 is due Wednesday at 11:59 pm. If you need extra time, please let me know and I will provide you the 72 hr grace period (which will not include Thursday and Friday); making the due date Monday Nov 30 at 11:59 pm.  I will work out the schedule for the team meetings for the weeks of Nov 30 and Dec  7 and will post those on LON-CAPA in the final project folder. I've been working on posting background information for each of the objectives in the same folder. Several of you have asked about measuring the pH of the soil slurr...

Happy Saturday! I hope all of you are staying well.  We now have less than one month left of classes! I just opened the extra credit participation question for this week. It is due Friday Nov. 20. In class on Tuesday and Thursday, we will discuss the final project. It would be highly beneficial if you could attend (rather than watch the recorded video) so that we can discuss the assignment and you have the opportunity to ask questions. Assignment 4 due on Thursday Nov 19. Email me if you need additional time. Lab 4: Soil pH and conductivity due Wednesday Nov 25 (I want you to be able to enjoy Thanksgiving break without an assignment due). Please review the requirements and let me know if there is anything you need so that I can work to get that to you. Again, email me if you are going to need additional time. The Final Project is due Wednesday, Dec 16, 2:45 pm. Finally Dr. Axelrod sent this article as he thought it would be of interest to you:  " Fireworks Of Diwali Ad...

Hi all, I know I'm late sending this out and I apologize. I know it's been a long week, especially with assignments/projects due in ENE 480, 481, 483 and whatever other classes you may have. Hopefully, the grace periods have been helpful and alleviated at least some of the stress.  This week we will look at detecting service line material. I will post the notes as soon as I complete them. And will lecture on Lab 4 on Tuesday and Thursday. I am really sorry for not opening the participation question sooner. I just opened it and set the due date for Friday at 11:59 pm.  Assignment 4 is due on Thursday at 11:59 pm. However, if you need additional time, please let me know and I will grant the extra time. I have finished grading the Fireworks Assignment this afternoon but am waiting for Dr. Axelrod to finish grading so that we can calibrate our grading. I'm hoping that we can post grades by mid-week. I apologize for the delay.  And a few photos from walks this weekend. All...

Happy Friday! I shared this photo with my ENE 483 class. I thought I would share it with all of you.  I know that life feels really hard right now - but remember, this to will end. In a few weeks, the semester will be over, the exam that you have been stressing over, will be done, the chapter finished, and the book closed. In the end, it won't seem to matter. But what matters most is your health and well-being.  As such, I am going to try something I haven't done before and that is to set a 3-day grace period for both Assignment 3 in ENE 480 and MiniDesign 2 in ENE 483. The due dates won't officially change, but if you need extra time, you can have an additional 72 hrs, no questions asked. If you need more, just let me know. So here are the due dates: ENE 480 Assignment 3: Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 11:59 pm (grace period ends Nov. 8 at 11:59 pm) ENE 483 MiniDesign 2: Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 at 11:59 pm (grace period ends Nov. 7 at 11:59 pm).  I hope this alleviates so...
